Earlier this year, I listed off several free kids activities in and around Metro Vancouver. One of those was Burnaby Village Museum in Deer Lake Park. Each winter, the historic village gets dressed up for the holidays in celebration of Heritage Christmas. The season officially kicked off with the Bright in Burnaby event over the weekend. This included a special tree lighting ceremony with Mayor Mike Hurley and other notable guests.

The good news is that the weather held up for us, so we didn’t have to deal with the rain and the snow. The bad news is that it was blisteringly cold with a significant wind chill factor. Finding parking wasn’t the easiest thing in the world either; Bright in Burnaby was much more popular than I had anticipated!

Even so, it was great to check out Heritage Christmas. Burnaby Village Museum is all decked out for the holidays with several festive light displays, plus they’re offering a range of free activities and live entertainment too. What’s more, proceeds from carousel ride tickets that night went to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau, which offers new gifts to families in need. Presenting sponsor Concord Pacific matched all sales as well.

For more information about Heritage Christmas, refer to the official page on the Burnaby Village Museum website. It’s open daily now until January 3, but it is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission and parking are free. Carousel rides are $2.65 each.

In case you missed them, I also shared videos from Aurora Winter Festival and the Vancouver Christmas Market this year. And be sure to check my guide to Metro Vancouver Christmas festivals for more fun things to do this holiday season.
