I don’t know about you, but I need a break. Or seven, if you can spare them. To that end, it’s time to kick up those heels and cast those hump day blues aside, because we’ve got the monthly speedlink on deck. Let’s hop to it.

Starting right on point, we have Samantha Sito talking about how you can take a break from social media. As powerful and useful as social media has been, both personally and professionally, it can also be incredibly draining. Studies have even shown a relationship between increased time on social media (especially Instagram and Facebook) and higher rates of depression. So, take a page from Samantha, get some help from a temporary “you,” and unplug every once in a while.

Do you deserve everything you’ve earned? Scott H. Young has a great write-up on overcoming imposter syndrome. In particular, I resonate with his thoughts on how achievements can feel relative, as well as how the challenges we’ve overcome can feel insignificant compared to the challenges ahead. I’m not sure if I feel better or worse knowing that even highly successful celebrities like Anna Kendrick suffer from imposter syndrome either.

Last month was Mental Health Awareness Month. In that spirit, Brett Grayson described his experience with depression and anxiety by offering play-by-play commentary of a typical night. It may or may not surprise you to learn that many people suffer in silence, so we don’t really recognize just how widespread these issues can be. As Brett puts his experience of raising children, “It’s like I’m trying to sell them a carton of spoiled milk.”

We all do what we have to do to make things work. Hello Dad discusses the shame of hiring a nanny to take care of the kids. In many ways, this relates to the guilt some people may feel with privilege. Well, the hard truth is that childcare can be very expensive, either monetarily or in opportunity cost, but sometimes hiring a nanny can be the most logical solution. Yes, having a nanny is “actually really helpful.”

You don’t have to travel far if you need a break from the frenetic energy of everyday life. Andria Milliard of The Cheerio Diaries lists off six places to adventure in Chilliwack, BC. We’re actually heading in that direction next month for a local vacation, so this guide couldn’t be more timely. Cultus Lake is definitely on our itinerary, including both the Waterpark and Adventure Park. Hopefully we have time to explore some of those hikes and trails too.

Finally, we have Tobin Walsh of The Good-Bad Dad. His kid wants to be a YouTuber when he grows up. It’s funny how things have changed so much since we were little. I thought I wanted to be an architect or a cartoonist. What we’ve come to realize, though, is that many of the jobs of the future don’t even exist yet. And before you laugh, “making it” as a YouTuber is far more relevant and achievable than “making it” as a Hollywood actor or big time rock star.
