It’s something I’ve been thinking about doing for quite some time. I just never got around to it. Well, as you may or may not have already noticed, I started a podcast about three weeks ago. The wildly creative name for this new venture? Beyond the Rhetoric: Podcast Edition. At least for the time being, the focus of the podcast will be on parenting and parenthood. Basically, I’ll be talking about life as a dad and the issues that concern me in that role.

The First Two Podcast Episodes

Among the myriad of reasons (read: “excuses”) that I had for not starting a podcast is that I felt like my audio wasn’t going to be up to snuff. When I upgraded to a proper USB microphone for my computer last fall, I no longer had that excuse. It’s been terrific for Zoom calls. Now, maybe I feel like I’m trying to justify the purchase by launching a podcast. Or maybe this mic is providing just enough of a nudge for me to get started.

Either way, the first two episodes of BTR: Podcast Edition are embedded here for your convenience.

Basically, I took my blog posts on parental peer pressure and improving reading skills, and converted them into the first two podcast episodes. The thinking is that some people would prefer to listen rather than read. This should make things more convenient for those listeners/readers. Hopefully, I’ll reach some new audiences with this podcast too.

Over time, how I choose to approach the podcast might change. It’s a solo affair for now, reading what is effectively a scripted monologue. Later on, I may opt to invite guests onto the program. There’s even a handy voice message function to take questions and comments from the audience. Go ahead and give it a try.

The easiest way to keep up with the podcast, naturally, is to subscribe to it. As of this writing, you’ll find my podcast on the following six platforms:

It’s supposed to be on Apple Podcasts too, but that doesn’t seem to be working for whatever reason. There’s also an RSS feed, if you’re still into that sort of thing.

Listen Up! Catch Me Online

It’s true that I’ve dabbled in several different things over the years. My online writing journey started out with an email newsletter, which I later morphed into a Geocities website. That paved the way to this blog, which extends into the vastness of social media. You may know about my books and you might already watch my videos on YouTube. I even tried my hand at Twitch streaming for a bit.

The podcast is another extension of these ongoing experiments in online content creation. I have no delusions of fame and fortune. I do hope, though, that you’ll follow along for the ride. Thanks for reading. And listening.
