Today is Family Day in British Columbia, a statutory holiday that was put in place in 2013 to fill the massive void between New Year’s Day and Good Friday. Some stores and offices are closed, while others may have reduced hours. As a freelancer, of course, I don’t get any days off, so that’s why we “celebrated” Family Day yesterday, capturing some highlights in this week’s vlog.

What a difference a week can make. As you may have seen in last week’s vlog, Vancouver got slammed with another wave of the snowpocalypse, but this was followed by a couple days of rain. This washed away quite a bit of the snow, at least in the city, though all of the major highways leading in and out of town were shut down for a period of time.

But I digress.

Yesterday was a perfect illustration of something that I’ve known on an intellectual level for many years, but I’m only really starting to acknowledge and internalize recently. As much as we may stress over money issues, as much as we my focus on professional aspirations, as much as we may get caught up in the newest toys and the hottest trends, none of those things should matter more than family.

And I use the term “family” in both the literal and figurative sense. Your closest and most treasured friends are your family too. So, take a couple hours and enjoy some dim sum with them. Or waste a moment gazing into the lobster tank with your little one. It’s worth it. They’re worth it.

Happy Family Day, eh!
