NFL Week 4 Results

October 1st, 2008 by Michael Kwan

After two weeks of rather mediocre performance, it seems that I have fallen into a pretty good grove when it comes to NFL predictions. For the fourth week in the National Football League, I went 9 for 13, representing an overall accuracy rating of 69%. I’d say that’s pretty good.

Unfortunately, one of the football predictions that went awry was with the Dallas Cowboys. Some people were saying that America’s team would go undefeated this season, capping it off with a Super Bowl victory, a feat that could not be achieved by last year’s New England Patriots. Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, and the rest of the Cowboys fell to the Washington Redskins in quite the crushing defeat. They even had a solid chance with the onside kick late in the fourth quarter..

This was a bye week for some rather notable teams — New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, and New England Patriots, as well as the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins — so it’ll be good to seem them in action again in Week 5.

Michael, you should pick against the betting line, not just straight up and down picks.

For example, picking the Bills over the Rams was a no brainer, but the Bills were laying the rams like 8 or 10 points (I don’t remember which). This will make picking quite a bit more difficult (and IMO enjoyable).

That’s what I did last year (didn’t publish my picks though). Maybe I’ll do that for Week 5. You’re right though.

You might be able to do well with that method, but I have a hard enough time just picking which team is going to win or lose though….where do look to find the spread and just how much “research” do you put in to your weekly picks?

        • Michael Kwan says:

I don’t really do anything in terms of formal research. I read the newspaper, watch sports highlights and that kind of thing, but nothing specifically for the purpose of making the picks.

When I did my picks by the point spread last year, I got the spreads from the BCLC (British Columbia Lottery Corporation). If they didn’t have them soon enough, I could also find the betting lines on Vegas.com.

    3. Michael – I think I spotted a mistake. The Steelers beat the Ravens 23 – 20. It was a great game by the way!!
