“I know how to spell kindergarten now,”
My daughter proclaimed to me with great pride
As she grabbed a pencil to show me how
More facts to her I decide to provide
“Did you know kindergarten is German?”
I probed, already knowing what she’d say
“What does it mean?” she asked to determine
The definition, as thus, I relay
“Garten is garden, kinder are children
It’s like a garden of children, you see”
“Kids are like flowers, different types, then,”
She reflected her thoughts back toward me
“Flowers need water and sunshine, you know
But a teacher’s love helps the children grow”
