The myth of the model minority
Instructs me to work hard, keep my head down
Be a good boy and bow to authority
While it slams a Black man onto the ground
Listen to rap music, but false ally?
Screaming thug life until inconvenient
Saying nothing as innocent men die
From excessive use of force they bleedin’
But it’s not my problem, we tell ourselves
As we benefit from the status quo
Spurred into action we are not compelled
But we should be, we have to, we must know
In this injustice, am I complicit?
Silent no more, making views explicit
