It seemed like a good idea at the time. After all, I’d already been camping once before in my life. Ever. And that was at last year’s event. So, why wouldn’t we head back into the forest for 5 Dads Go Wild a second time? Why not throw in the added wrench of sub-zero temperatures and relentless snow? How did five dad bloggers fare? Well, let’s just say my tent folded in on itself with me in it.
Before we embarked on the first 5 Dads Go Wild camping trip last year, I had never been camping in my adult life. The only camping experience was from high school, and that’s when we had cabins and electricity and heat. I’d never been camping in a tent. And this year, Mother Nature decided to pour down the freezing snow on us too.
As we were sharing some of our experiences on social media over the weekend, a few people pointed out how unprepared we were. Maybe that’s true. Really, though, we can probably chalk that up to inexperience. And really, 5 Dads Go Wild is an opportunity for us dad bloggers to bond without worrying about our day-to-day responsibilities.
It’s truly amazing how the five of us have distinctly different life circumstances, but blogging and fatherhood unite us. Adult friendships are hard to come by, so I am truly grateful and humbled by this opportunity to head into the wild with these guys. Even if it means my tent gets buried under the snow.
Be sure to follow the other dads for more perspectives from our camping trip. There’s already a bunch of content on our respective social media channels, and there’ll be more coming down the pipeline in the next few days too.
