New year’s resolutions may be filled with optimism and positivity, but they oftentimes don’t work. Not to mention that circumstances can and do change over the course of a year. To that end, I’ve been setting “guiding words” for myself these last couple of years. While I feel like I’ve come up short, they’ve served me well. And so, as we flip those calendars, I’ve come up with some new guiding words for 2019. Here’s the vlog.
New year, new me? Not exactly. More like new year, mostly the same me, but hopefully a bit better and more balanced. That’s the hope, at least.
As you might recall, I also blogged about my guiding words of 2017: acceptance, prioritization, and completion. And then I vlogged about my guiding words of 2018: intent, calm, and enough. Of the three, I struggled the most with “enough.”
Am I doing enough? Am I making enough? Am I… enough? It’s really hard to let go and that’s why it’s become so hard for me to enjoy any guilt-free “me time.” Sure, I read books and watch movies, but I also feel horrible about it afterwards. That needs to stop.
My guiding words for 2019 reflect that shift in focus. It won’t be easy. Hopefully, I’ll be all the better for it. And hopefully you’ll all be here to accompany me on this journey. Do you have any guiding words for 2019? I’d love to hear about them if you’d like to share via the comments below.
