Can you believe it’s already been a month since the last time we’ve done this? Let’s see what some other terrific bloggers have been discussing lately.
A Seafaring Magic Kingdom
Have you ever considered taking a Disney cruise, but you’re not sure if it’s worth the money? Canadian Dad Chris Read offers his first-hand impressions of sailing aboard the Disney Dream, including a stop at Castaway Cay. There are Disney characters everywhere and you should definitely download the app to stay on top of daily activities. The shows are amazing too.
Need a Boost?
Speaking of family travel, Kevin Wagar reviews the MiFold portable car seat. One of the bigger challenges of traveling with a little one is dealing with car seats. Unless you’re renting a car from beginning to end, lugging around a convertible car seat or even a booster can be a real headache. The MiFold overcomes many of these concerns in a truly compact package.
Social Media Overwhelm
Do you find that you’re spending way too much time on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram? You’re certainly not alone. Rebecca Coleman asks whether we are burning out of social media. The never-ending deluge of updates and notifications can overwhelm us, preventing us from truly living in the moment. And the pressure to live up to your online expectations can be too much.
Speak Up, Wesley
“But you’ve got everything going for you. Chin up. It could be worse.” We’ve all heard some variation of that. As Wil Wheaton points out, though, appearances can be deceiving. The famous actor has lived with chronic depression for years and he’s not ashamed to talk about it. We should all open up the dialog about this.
It’ll Work Out
On a tangentially related note, Justin Connors looks back at that time his gym photo hit the front page of Reddit. At the time, he was 430 pounds and ready to tackle his weight loss journey with enthusiasm. He was met with thousands of likes and followers, and it was all terribly addicting. To date, the picture has been seen five million times and his brief brush with Internet fame almost ruined him.
Gone Girl
There is nothing more frightful for a parent. Mike Armstrong of Daddy Realness recounts the time that he almost lost his child while on vacation at a resort. Kids will be kids and you want to provide them with an opportunity, but you mind immediately jumps to the worst case scenario when you lose sight of them. I know I’ve had this happen to me at the playground.
Good Night and Good Luck
And finally, we turn to Margarita Wyld for some advice on establishing a healthy sleep routine. Personally, I’ve been trying really hard to limit screen time and caffeine intake before bed. Having a notepad handy for a “brain dump” is helpful too. I think we could all use a good night’s sleep, don’t you think?
