This may surprise some of you. Up until a couple of years ago when we went to Montreal, I hadn’t traveled further east in Canada than the the Alberta Badlands. Well, I had a layover in Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, but that doesn’t really count. Now I can say that I’ve been to the easternmost point in Canada. For our 36-hour whirlwind tour of the area, Ford Canada set us up at the JAG Boutique Hotel in downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland.

From what I can gather, the JAG Boutique Hotel in St. John’s is a relatively new property. I tried scouting it out ahead of time in Google Maps, but Street View reveals an empty lot. It’s part of a chain of restaurants in Eastern Canada called Steele Hotels and it immediately gives off a hip and modern vibe.

Throughout the JAG Boutique Hotel, both in the rooms and in the common areas, you’ll find plenty of music-inspired decor and imagery from the 60s, 70s and 80s. There’s Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, and so on. The door hanger to the room is a good example of this. One side reads, “The towels they need a-changin” with Bob Dylan. Instead of a simple “do not disturb” on the other side, it reads, “Shattered.”

As I mention in the video above, the reason for the trip was to check out the new 2018 Ford EcoSport. We’ll have a video focused on the little CUV up on MEGATechNews soon, and I’ll be following up next week with another vlog with more of our travels around St. John’s and the surrounding area in Newfoundland.
