Shortly after the movie adaptation came out in 1993, I rushed to the local public library to pick up a copy of Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton… and I proceeded to rifle through the 464-page novel in less than a week. That’s quite the feat for a tween! I’ve never really reclaimed that kind of pace, but as I mentioned in last week’s vlog, I really want to read more again. For this week’s vlog, I’m highlighting some of the books from my reading list. Before we get there, though, let’s start with an overly ecstatic preschooler and her new marble-racing kit.
I’ve endeavored to read one book a month for the last couple of years, but I’ve never taken the time or effort to track whether or not I’m actually achieving that goal. This year, I’m continuing with the same objective and I’m actually going to track my progress this time around by way of my new Goodreads account (@michaelkwan). Feel free to follow me there and we can embark on a little reading adventure together.
While the exact order in which I’ll make it through this reading list is obviously subject to change, and it’s very likely that I’ll insert a different book here or there as interests and opportunities present themselves, here are the half-dozen books I highlighted in the vlog above for your convenience.
- Sum Yung Guys by Edwin Lee
- The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson
- An Imperfect Offering by James Orbinski
- Startle and Illuminate by Carol Shields
- Solitude by Michael Harris
- The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu
What’s on your reading list? Do you have any goals for how many books you plan on reading in 2018? I’ve got some Goodreads friends with reading challenges of 50 or even 100 books this year. Wow!
