When is shopping more than just shopping? Metropolis at Metrotown continues to provide added value and new experiences for shoppers and this summer is no exception. You might remember when I visited the Lightroom installation last year. This year, they’re running a new “virtual experience” called MIRAGE. The art installation consists of a 2-minute walkthrough, surrounding you in a visual and audio experience.
I still remember when “Metrotown” was really three distinct malls that happened to be connected by way skybridges and walkways. Several years later, they expanded with the Metropolis wing to introduce Playdium and Silvercity. Things have changed a lot since then and the much more cohesive “Metropolis at Metrotown” serves as one of the largest shopping and entertainment complexes in North America. It’s more than just a mall.
The MIRAGE installation is similar to last year’s Lightroom. You enter this giant box in the middle of Grand Court by the elevators. The multiple projectors surround you in a 360-degree multimedia experience, all while the images are reflected off the mirrored ceiling and floor. It’s really immersive and it’s completely free for guests to enjoy.
And if you share your MIRAGE experience on social media using the hashtag #METMIRAGE and tagging @MetropolisAtMet, you’ll be entered for a chance to win weekly gift card prizes or the $1,000 grand prize shopping spree. More information can be found on the official event page. MIRAGE runs daily from 12pm to 7pm until Monday, September 5th.
