Today, we celebrate the 157th birthday of our beautiful province. You don’t look a day over 101, British Columbia. Most banks, government agencies and professional offices are closed on B.C. Day, but you can likely expect to find a great number of shops, cafes and restaurants open today, happily accepting the business of all those people who have the day off.
And then you’ve got us entrepreneurs, solopreneurs and freelancers where the notion of a “statutory holiday” doesn’t really exist. We don’t get paid on B.C. Day unless we put in the hours. Of course, we all deserve a break sometimes and the beautiful B.C. weather is reason enough to celebrate (even if we’re still in the midst of a drought). After all, B.C. boasts Canada’s second largest parks system in the country next to the National Parks system. That’s likely also why we are home to so many rare species, like the “spirit” bear.
We’ve got some pretty good beer too. Happy B.C. Day, everyone!
