Two of the best things about summer in Vancouver are the food trucks and the farmers markets. Why not combine the two? We kick off this week’s speedlink with HungrySLIF and his visit to the Creperie la Boheme at the Trout Lake Farmers Market. They serve a range of buckwheat crepes with your choice of sweet or savory fillings, including many of which that are local and seasonal. I was actually so inspired by SLIF’s post that I went to Trout Lake this past weekend for a couple crepes of our own.
Whether you describe yourself as an introvert or an extrovert, you should have a look at the post by Stephanie at Playfully Tacky. She lists a few things you should know about introverts. We probably hate getting lost in the crowd, but we can be comfortable in smaller groups. And if we’re being extra quiet, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re shy or that we are judging you. And yes, we can get lost in our inner monologue quite easily.
I am Groot. When Chris Golden asked his wife to go see Guardians of the Galaxy, she was hesitant as she’s not typically a fan of these kinds of movies. Well, she “fell hard for a talking tree” and loved the film just as much as the hordes of sci-fi and comic book geeks who have been gushing over the movie since its release. If you’ve had a chance to read my Guardians of the Galaxy review, then you’ll know just how great this film really is. Fun fact: at its peak, the special effects rendering farm for this movie was using 13,000 cores.
Next, we turn to our good friend Ray Ebersole. Like me, he really enjoys listening to the range of TED Talks that are posted on the Internet. One in particular that caught his eyes and ears was the one by Australian singer-songwriter Megan Washington. In her talk, she discusses the challenges she faces with public speaking, because she has a stutter. I can certainly relate, though I certainly don’t have the same kind of talent to put out what she calls a “TED Sing.”
A short while back, I received an email call-to-action from Amazon concerning e-book pricing. Jennifer Mattern got that same email and she’s chiming in with her thoughts on the whole kerfuffle between Amazon and Hachette. Amazon is calling on the army of independent e-book authors to contact Hachette directly about their pricing policies and Jennifer is disgusted by how they’re going about it. As a shamelessly self-promotional aside, my e-book is very reasonably priced and, coincidentally, is now available on Amazon.
