Without resorting to the Willie Nelson song that inevitably comes to mind, we’re on the road again with this week’s speedlink. We kick off the journey with Duane Storey, who is planning a road trip across North America with his girlfriend. He is driving all the way from Chilliwack, British Columbia to Hamilton, Ontario and the journey will take him through both Canada and the United States. Total driving time is expected to about 40 hours, broken up into five days, for the grand 4,000+ kilometre journey.
Switching gears to look down the road map of time, Emily Guy Birken discusses some old rules about retirement savings that you should probably throw out the window. The outdated rule of thumb used to be that you needed to save $1 million to retire comfortably, but how much money you need could actually be a lot more or a lot less than that. You really need to look at your individual circumstances and what your specific goals are when it comes to your own personal retirement.
As you work your way toward that retirement, you may also find yourself working your way up some sort of corporate ladder. While Luke Landes notes that there are instances where competition is favorable for bringing the best out of you, you can also experience plenty of challenges when you compare yourself to others. This is true both from a professional and a personal standpoint. Sometimes, you should just forget about keeping up with the Joneses.
You can hit the road without ever leaving your city, especially if you’re looking for a good place to eat. That’s exactly what hungrySLIF decided to do when he grabbed some brunch from the Yolk’s food truck. They specialize mostly in a variety of eggs benedicts with real hollandaise sauce, though the food truck variety is marketed more as a breakfast sandwich. I’ve been to the actual Yolk’s restaurant and I’ve been told the food cart is actually much better.
And finally, if you are taking to the skies instead of the road for your next trip, then Kerry Bajaj has some tips to help you stay healthy on the plane. Rather than talking about how to avoid all of those circulating the germs, the post discusses how you can make the flight as comfortable as possible. Bring your own easy-to-digest snacks and, even more importantly, remember to stay hydrated. You can bring an empty water bottle that you can refill after you’ve made it past airport security.
