In last week’s speedlink, I introduced you to Two Girls One Blog by showcasing a post by Lesley Chang. This week, we turn to the other half of Two Girls One Blog by looking at a post by Phoenix Lam. She’s getting married in November and while I’m sure those stresses are starting to catch up to her, she’s doing her best not to be a bridezilla. In fact, she even has five big tips for brides-to-be to avoid going crazy with all those preparations.
Switching gears, we turn to Thursday Bram who offers an interesting discussion on your identity of the moment. More specifically, she talks about the concept of having a Starbucks name that you give to the barista so they don’t mess up your actual (possibly more obscure) name, and then having an SEO name that is more unique and, thus, is easier to rank for in the popular search engines. If you’ve ever met someone in real life and you could only remember their Twitter handle, then you’ve run into this situation.
If you’re looking for advice on how to stretch your dollar, Trent Hamm is a good guy to ask. What he has very quickly learned is that you can “live paycheck to paycheck whether you’re making $400 a month or $4,000 a month.” It’s all about your mindset and that’s why the person who is living frugally by choice is really the only person who understands the value of a dollar. When you live frugally out of necessity, you run the risk of very quickly over-spending when you do start making a little more money.
When you think about factors that affect your health and life expectancy, your attention might turn to diet, smoking or a family history of heart disease. Kristi Kivi Frimpong reminds us that working in a cubicle could be putting your health at risk. The same thing can be said about working from home, sitting in front of the same desk for hours on end. Remember to take breaks, stretch your body, play at work, and “become an agent of happiness.”
And finally, we have Rebecca Bollwitt reminding us that Five Hole For Food wraps up their cross-country tour this Saturday in Vancouver. They’ve traveled coast to coast, from Halifax to Calgary, raising money and food for all the local food banks along the way. Come out, bring a donation for the food bank, pick up a stick and play some road hockey with your fellow supporters. I hear Roberto Luongo will play hockey for food too!
Oh well, my essay on writing didn’t make it. 🙁
