Last night was a great night for Vancouver Canucks fans. Our hometown hockey team had already clinched the Northwest Division, as well as the Western Conference, but it was with last night’s win over the Los Angeles Kings that the Canucks clinched the Presidents’ Trophy. That’s the award given by the NHL to the team with the most regular season points.
But that’s “just” the regular season. As Ryan Kesler tells us, the team is “not satisfied” and they have to “keep going.” It was with that mentality that they won the Presidents’ Trophy and it is with that mentality that they’re going to approach the playoffs.
And that’s where we can all kick off the party. Even though playoff tickets don’t go on sale until tomorrow, I’ve managed to secure a pair of tickets to Game 1. We know the Canucks have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, so we already know the first game of the first round will be played right here in Vancouver.
Being the generous guy that I am, I’m going to give away these Canucks playoff tickets to one lucky Beyond the Rhetoric reader. All you have to do to enter is follow me on Twitter or like me on Facebook, sharing a link to this post through either platform. Then, post a comment in this post saying that you’ve done this and you’re in! I’ll draw a winner at random this coming Monday.
Here are the highlights from last night’s game in case you missed it. Not a bad way to start the month of April, eh?
UPDATE: Happy April Fool’s Day!
In case you didn’t figure it out, this was an April Fool’s Day gag. To really win some tickets, check out the contest details in this YouTube video. Cheers. 🙂

Go Canucks Go!
Retweeted the post – but as a Blackhawks fan, I’m not sure that I am eligible! =)
A Blackhawks / Canucks matchup in Round 1 would be great to see, although I wouldn’t like my chances too much the way the Canucks are playing.
Up for our same wager as every other year? 🙂
Assuming we get the matchup, absolutely!
We are following and have retweeted! Thanks!

April Fools only goes til noon, dude. That’s like trick-or-treating in November..!
As far as I know April 1st is 24 hours the same as any other day of the year. At the same time there are 24 times zones so it’s noon somewhere on the earth all the time.
In some countries (eg, Ireland and Cyprus) the tradition goes that after 12 noon you can no longer play tricks. In the afternoon, whoever does play a trick becomes the fool. This scenario may have been designed by adults to give themselves a bit of a rest.
There is a rhyme that children recite if anyone attempts an April Fool trick after 1 April:
April Fool is dead and gone,
You’re a fool to carry it on.
To be fair, this post went live at 10am local time, so I was still within the “rule” of noon.
Boy is my face red. You got me. Go Canucks!
Just followed and RT your link! Would love to win tickets to see the Canucks this playoffs!

Michael, Michael, Michael….You will do ANYTHING just to increase readership and comments won’t you ;-P
In case you didn’t read it, the Flyers fired Peter Laviolette during the first intermission tonight and replaced him with Don Cherry.
I’m all for April Fools jokes but this was a dirty move by you to gain followers on twitter and likes on Facebook instead of coming up with something creative. You preyed on the Canucks win for your profit. Unfollowed. Unliked.
Shame on you. And I hope you publish this comment for everyone to read.
Get real Bob please. I’ve been a follower of this blog for 3 years and any common sense person would have known not to believe anything posted on Aprils Fools day and something that was too good to be true.
Michael doesn’t censor posts and doesn’t need the followers of the likes, he isn’t like that. He didn’t prey on anyone for any profit? Did he ask for any money to follow or like him? No, he didn’t.
Of course you Canucks fans are quite passionate, so I can see ya’ll falling for an April Fools Joke.
Michael, I love how the WordPress Related Posts plugin pulls any related post. They go all the way back to when I was a young man of 47 in 2007. I can’t believe you haven’t written about the Canucks since then.
I think I have written about them since, but not early as often as with that season.
GO NUCKS – liked u on fb – pick me please
I’ve posted on twitter, and liked you on facebook! hopin I win, took my friend to the oilers game for her birthday… not a great performance…. would love to make up for it with playoff tickets hahaha
I’ve liked you on Facebook and shared this link – Go Canucks GO!!!
well we dont get to see ice hockey in India . This game must be interesting .
Sourish
I read the whole post and then see its an April fools joke AAAHH! I probably couldn’t travel all the way up the Vancouver anyhow. Good one though. I guess I did get tricked after all on April fools. Oh and thanks for the highlights.

unlike, delete tweet, take note of Michael’s business and business partners and site developers… done, done, done and done! I never do business with untrustworthy people
Well Trev, I guess you are just a poor sport aren’t you. I guess that’s why it’s called April Fools because you were a fool.
What a lame way to get more followers. Get real Ray common sense people would know to go with honesty. Doing anything “just to increase readership and comments” goes to show how little spirit can be found here. I refuse to support anyone in this world who chooses deception.
You have no clue Trev. Any person with common sense would realize that this was a too good to be true proposal “Even though playoff tickets don’t go on sale until tomorrow, I’ve managed to secure a pair of tickets to Game 1.”, was on April 1st which is notorious for Internet April Fools posts and just wasn’t real.
Also, if you had any knowledge of this blog and readership you would know that the readership has been the same for about 3 years, and by reading any of Michael’s posts for any length of time you would know that this isn’t what he derives his income from. He doesn’t get it from Facebook or Twitter either.
As I said, you just got fooled, live with it.
Ray I pray for you to find a higher spirit. False accusations against someone is wrong.
Don’t need you to pray for me. I’m fine with myself, worry about yourself.
You will get there as we will continue to pray for those who prey on others. Do you even know the history of April fools?
Actually,Ray, truth be told. season ticket holders get tickets before they are released to the general public. But I must say it’s very altruistic of you to stand up for friend though.
You are right Dan, we had to give up our season tickets to the Flyers when my father moved to Florida and I gave up my Lightning season tickets when they hiked prices after winning the Cup.
I appreciate the rest of the comment. For the record, I have read this blog for 2-3 years, know Michael from here, twitter and FB, but first saw his blog linked through Dot Com Pho, and John Chow. While I have not actually met Michael in person, we have had other conversations, discussions and interactions. I consider him a true friend, not an internet friend and would support him no matter what because I feel I really know him from what we have shared the last few years.
Thanks Ray.
This post was supposed to be a fun April Fools gag and I put in the Twitter/FB links so that it looked more believable (which I thought would help the April Fools cause). If every link was the Rick Roll video, it wouldn’t be as convincing.
Thanks for sharing this, Ray. I remember my Dad taking me to a Flyers game & Moose Dupont & “The Broad Street Bullies” climbed over the boards & into the stands of the Pacific Coliseum to beat up the Canuck fans. BTW my name is “Don”. As in Saleski & Cherry. Truth in the the details of any internet personal interactions actually do matter.
Don,
I am so sorry for the name screw up, it was not intentional. We have season tickets when the Flyers won the Cups and actually had them from their first season 1967 until 1977 when we moved south.
I have a stick signed by all the Flyers when they won their first cup and when I was playing hockey as a kid in midgets and juniors the flyers current training camp in Voorhees NJ, was called the Coliseum and they were just starting to use it as a practice facility. I got a lot of autographs and got to skate with Clarkie, Simon Nolet, the Hammer, Bid Bird, and icing Eddie Van Impe. My favorite player though was Bernie Parent.
Good memories, again sorry for name screw up.
Michael, This was a funny April fools joke I noticed quite a few people had been played upon. Woo Hoo Go Canucks Go!
No problem Ray. Wow you are very lucky to have been involved around the team that Fred Shero coached which struck fear & intimidated all opponents at that time. I remember Bernie Parent made the cover of Sports Illustrated & I believe he was the first NHL player to do so. I always admired Reggie Leach & Gary Dornhoffer and enjoyed the uniform change when thay wore the sweatpants instead of shorts. Bobby Clarke was a great leader. Good luck in the playoffs..!
are the playoff tickets gone? and i like you on f/b … oh did vancouver win last night? game 2 of playoffs? missed it (me bad lol)
GO CANUCKS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
