“I don’t want to be made pacified or made comfortable. I like stuff that gets your adrenaline going.”
The 83rd Annual Academy Awards are scheduled to take place a little later today, so I thought that it would be apt to highlight a winner from last year’s Oscar Awards.
As you may recall, Kathryn Bigelow took home the golden statue for The Hurt Locker, both for Best Director and for Best Picture. It’s almost a little hard to believe, but she was the first woman to ever win the Academy Award for Best Director. She was also named to the Time 100 list of the most influential people of 2010.
The quote above may seem to be indicative of her own personality traits, but there is also a very important take-home message for the rest of us: we shouldn’t necessarily seek out a state of complacency. It is only when we step outside our comfort zones and “get our adrenaline going” that we can truly have the opportunity to realize our full potential. This doesn’t mean you need to be an adrenaline junkie; it just means you need to take calculated risks.
Moving away from Kathryn Bigelow and diverting our attention back to this year’s Oscars, who do you think will win Best Picture? I’ve already said that, despite all the hype, The Social Network will not win. I won’t be at all disappointed if it does win, though. We also have to remember that the Golden Globes don’t necessarily predict the Oscars. After all, The Hurt Locker didn’t win the Globe but it won the Academy Award.
Honestly, I haven’t seen any of the Best Picture nominations. I’m not big on seeing newer movies when they first come out unless it is something that I am completely into. Star Trek and Spiderman would be good examples of movies I went to see the day they came out. I also took my wife to see Avatar and Despicable Me.
I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone wears and a night full of Anne Hathaway. Although it won’t be anywhere as funny as the Globes and Ricky Gervais.
definitely not that entertaining but was certainly amusing. I kinda wanted social network to win but knew the king’s speech was going to take it. haven’t seen the movie but have gained the interest to but not really.
Wow, I had no idea that a woman had never won an Oscar for best director before Kathryn. Glad she won it and was the first to do it.
