“Let us therefore animate and encourage each other, and show the whole world that a Freeman, contending for liberty on his own ground, is superior to any slavish mercenary on earth.”
We celebrated Canada Day just a few days ago and now, we get to celebrate the independence of the United States on the Fourth of July.
To all of my American neighbors to the south, I wish you a happy Independence Day. Get out there, enjoy a good brew, good food, good company, and good fireworks.
To this end, I thought that it would be rather apt to select a quote from the first President of the United States, George Washington. He is the father of your nation, after all.
For something a little more contemporary, you may want to consider one of the books by Barack Obama… though he probably hired a ghost writer to “help” him with many of those. 🙂
Washington is way to wordy to quote. 🙂
While being a great leader, he was really in the right place at the right time for our country. He was well respected and a statesman because of his ability to use good strategy in his dealings with others.
Though Washington was one of the Fathers of our nation, I believe that Lincoln should be regarded highly because he helped unify the country and face a tragic death for it. Who knows where we would be today if he served the country full-term.
Actually Lincoln didn’t unify the country. He was able to win a war but the South was the South and the country really still isn’t unified. There is still enough racial bigotry and discrimination to go around.
One of these days we will be able to say that we are unified, but not yet.
Lincoln was the greatest President of all time because he was able to get the most out of what he had and was able to convince people that we were better as a whole than separated.
