They say that a penny saved is a penny earned, but it can be time-consuming to fumble your way through the Sunday paper, snipping out the coupons that tickle your fancy. We’re in the 21st century, after all, so it’s about time that we go digital with this kind of thing.
At least one company is moving us in that direction. If you happen to have an Apple iPhone or an iPod touch, you can head over to the App Store to find the Right Deal Right Now mobile coupon app. There’s no clipping needed, because you just show the digital coupon displayed on your iPhone to the merchant to get your discount. The app officially launched today for the Vancouver area. It can be downloaded via the App Store.
This can save you time and money, because the app can search for coupons in your immediate vicinity, as well as through different categories like restaurants and entertainment. If you’re thinking that some Vancouver stores are gouging you during the Olympics, this app will help you find a few that are actually working to save you some cash.
The Right Deal app is also fully integrated with Yelp and, to my knowledge, it’s the only mobile coupon application to do that. For those of you who are not as familiar, Yelp is a crowd-sourced review site for restaurants, shops, and other kinds of businesses. This way, you can check out the merchant before cashing in your mobile coupon.
The downside? I don’t have an iPhone right now (I can almost hear my friend Gary making some snide comment). The upside? They’re working on versions of the Right Deal app for other platforms too, so here’s hoping for a Symbian S60 app for my Nokia E71. I want to save some money too, you know.

I know the sponsored posts make you money Michael, but they just don’t feel like they are part of btr.
Thanks for the feedback, Ray. I thought this had some relation though, since I do discuss technology and ways to save money. I’ll be back to the regular posts again tomorrow. đ
