Going to just about any shopping mall around this time of year, you’ll inevitably be met with quite the crowd. We have all of these shoppers frantically looking for just the right gift for just the right person, reminding us once again about the heavily commercialized version of Christmas that we celebrate these days. There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of materialism, but you do have to be careful not to go overboard.
If you happened to be following on Twitter last night, then you may have caught my tweet asking the following:
“Finish this statement: Even if I don’t get anything else for Christmas, I’ll be happy if I get…
How did the Twitter community respond? Let’s see.
Sleigh Bells Ring…
For those of you who were hoping to save money during this holiday shopping season, I certainly hope that you don’t have Buzz Bishop on your “good boys and girls” list, because his wish is a little on the expensive side. He doesn’t want a new book, iPod, or even a new computer. What does he want for Christmas?
“a house to call a home.”
As you may have heard, Buzz packed up his bags in North Vancouver, moving his family one province over to Calgary. He took a new DJ job with a radio station there and we wish him all the best, but that’s quite the hefty price tag! Do you have $500,000 (or more) to spare? I’m sure he’ll be perfectly happy if you can just point him toward a good home in Cowtown; that present will cost you no money at all.
Raul says he wants anything from his ThinkGeek list (I dig the mini filing cabinet for business cards) and Hollydale says he wants the Juice Newton DVD. Both of those wishes sound pretty reasonable to me.
Are You Listening?
Speaking for myself, there are several items on my Amazon wish list and I certainly would not mind if I found any of them under the Christmas tree. Some of the items from last year’s wish list are still unfulfilled as well, like the Lexus IS250 AWD and MacBook Pro. However, I wouldn’t finish the statement I posed above with any of these items.
Even if I don’t get anything else for Christmas, I’ll be happy if I get the opportunity to spend some quality time and share some treasured memories with my good friends and my loving family.
Far be it for me to say that I am anywhere near what you would consider rich, but at this point in my life, material gifts are simply the icing on the cake. If I really want something, I can just as easily go out and buy it myself. For me, the experiences that we have with our loved ones are worth so much. The relationships that we forge are everything.
I’m happy with just my family at the holidays, but the one thing I wish for if I don’t get anything else is that my family is happy. I feeling I get from the smiles of my daughter and son is more than enough for me.
Ditto for me.
Dude, Id rethink buying a car since you work online its probably parked most of them time right..
I think Christmas has become too commercial.
