Three days ago, we were flying the maple leaf in celebration of Canada’s birthday. Today, we take the opportunity to fly the stars and stripes to celebrate America’s Independence Day. I’d like to wish a very happy Fourth of July to all of readers from south of the border. Get out there and enjoy your fireworks, barbecues, and
It isn’t nearly as much of an issue today, since it happens to be a Saturday, but international holidays always present an interesting conundrum for freelance writers like me. While the majority of my income (and clients) hail from Canada, I do work with several Americans and with people all around the world. It’s not always entirely clear whether it can be a real day off for me or not, since it may be a holiday here and not somewhere else.
But it’s Saturday, so I’m going to treat it like a Sunday. That makes sense, right? Happy ID4! You’d better hope that Will Smith is available. 🙂
Thanks Michael! We are doing the cookout and fireworks today. Resting is nice on a holiday, but I can see your problem in knowing when a holiday is and whether to take it off.
I try to take them all off, but I can’t get away with the Canadian ones. ;-0
The fourth of July was a bit weird this time around. Called a business on Friday, but they were closed for the holiday. But, they were open on Saturday. Friday was the official Federal holiday for the 4th of July. But, the Post Office was open half a day on Friday and not at all on Saturday. The stock market was closed, but local banks were open.
Our banks were open also, while they were closed Saturday and will be open on Monday. Weird that they are not taking a regular business day as the holiday.
