For most editions of What’s Up Wednesdays, I share some excellent posts that I found in the blogosphere. Sometimes, there is a theme. Other times, it’s more of a random mish-mash of interesting thoughts.
A few weeks ago, I went for a change of pace and posted some Twitter questions instead. This is a good way to connect the conversations I have on Twitter with the discussions we have here on Beyond the Rhetoric.
I posed a couple of questions to the Twitter community again, asking them about the world of work. Why do you do what you do? Who keeps you in check? How do you stay on task and shut out the distractions?
@michaelkwan I don’t stay focused at work 🙁
@michaelkwan Set a mental plan. Get enough coffee. Be in business attire. At home, I fail. :p
@michaelkwan I stay focused by leaving the house. I only really work when I’m away from all my toys, bed, etc so I go to the coffee shop.
@michaelkwan think about the ass kicking you’re gonna get if you’re and shit is not done on time
@michaelkwan To stay focused at work, I turn on the white noise of a radio or TV on something meaningless
@michaelkwan I keep my mind sharp & focused by doing deep breathing exercise during short breaks & maintain a steady breathing rhythm
@michaelkwan right at this moment? money. plain and simple.
@michaelkwan the 3 pictures in front of my monitor! a car, house, and a beach sunset
@michaelkwan Great clients who love my work…
@michaelkwan What keeps me motivated? Doing my best and the bills.
Michael,
Watching Dot Com Pho videos gives me a much needed break from the monotony of landing page creation, ad campaign copy-writing and watching yet another get rich quick video on YouTube.
My greatest challenge is distraction, working from home has it’s pitfalls, the family thinks you are always available for interuptions, the phone rings, the doorbell rings, the dog needs to be let out.
Respectfully,
Nicholas Chase

I too like to watch Dot Com Pho, but not at work. That white noise that I talk about really just puts me in a zone to concentrate. It blocks out the other noise that would distract me, like students asking the media aide a question or a class walking in front of my office.
Have you ever taken a second and realized the feeling you have after vacuuming the floor? The white noise from the vacuum makes me feel refreshed and my mind clear.
