During his run to the White House, Barack Obama ran a campaign centered on hope and change. While it may be shocking at times, change can do us a lot of good. We can gain new insights and change things for the better. However, change isn’t always a good thing and it can result in quite the negative backlash.
You can’t please everyone all of the time, so sometimes all it takes is a change of perspective to see things in a brighter light. With this in mind, we turn to this week’s edition of What’s Up Wednesdays. I told the Twitter community that “change” was the theme and here’s what they had to share.
Facebook’s Facelift Results in More Frenemies
Facebook isn’t really what it used to be. If you ask some people, they’ll say that the social networking site is simply evolving and catering to the desires of its users. If you ask Buzz Bishop, though, he’ll tell you that the most recent redesign has resulted in a whole lot of frenemies. Some very vocal fans of Facebook are not at all pleased with the Twitter-like update to the site. What do you think? Are you a friend or a foe of the new Facebook?
Location-Free Freelancing, Exploiting Your Location
Conventional thinking can only get you so far. Thursday Bram offers a unique perspective on the business of freelancing. You see, one of the perks to a freelance business is that it is location-free. You can work from anywhere with anyone from anywhere. However, Thursday reminds us that you can use your location to your advantage too. Many local companies prefer to work with local freelancers.
Just a Little Bucket of Paint
For me, I know that a change of scenery can work wonders. This doesn’t mean that you actually have to go anywhere though! Lisa Jones and her furry web-hosting husband decided to give their bedroom a fresh coat of paint. They said goodbye to the green walls, covering them up with a splash of blue-gray. It’s like a whole new room!
Saving Change for a Rainy Day
Since I work from home as a freelance writer, I save quite a bit of money each month. I don’t put as much mileage on my car. I rarely eat out for lunch. I don’t have to invest in expensive equipment. However, Kathryn Vercillo reminds us of some money-wasting things she does as a web writer. A penny saved is a penny earned, so you should cut out those unnecessary expenses.
Changing the Man in the Mirror
Who are the most influential people on the planet? It’s easy to look to the Barack Obamas and Steve Ballmers of the world, but each and every one of us can make a huge difference too. MoneyNing takes a look at a local custodian, showing us why you are important. Your impact may not be immediately obvious or recognized, but it’s there if you look for it. You matter and the things you do have far-reaching ramifications.
Here is how I view change:
Change happens fast, but acceptance is like a glacier, slow moving.
While I like to think I adapt to change fairly well, I’m not so sure I like the new facebook layout…I felt the same way about the change from the original one to the layout right before this, but grew to like that one quite quickly. With this newest change, it still hasn’t grown on me :S
