Yut yee som,
Microphone testing one, two, three,
In the place to be.
Wassup everybody, my name is Tai Mai Shu.
And I am going to rapping for you today,
Just a little freestyle…

If you were a kid of the 90s, particularly if you are of Chinese descent, you probably remember listening to this MP3 some time around 1999. Sure, some people may consider the Tai Mai Shu freestyle to be a little racist — it clearly plays off of a number of Chinese stereotypes — but it was easily one of the funniest viral multimedia files that found its way around the Internet in the 90s. Remember, these were the days when most people were surfing around on 28.8 or, if they’re lucky, 56k modems, so downloading a single MP3 file was a pretty big deal. Even if you had cable or DSL, it was nowhere near as fast as it is today.

After I found this make-shift music video on YouTube, I just couldn’t help myself. I laughed. I laughed hard. I had myself in stitches and I played it again and again. Frankly, Tai Mai Shu is ridiculously funny. And the South Park-like animation just makes it that much sweeter.

29 CENT! At McDonald…. Baby!
