It’s been an interesting month and I can proudly say that the USB TV Tuner contest has been a much bigger success than the t-shirt contest I ran in May. All in all, there were a total of 98 entries in this contest (encompassing all five of the ways to enter), far eclipsing the benchmark of 3 set by the t-shirt contest.
The most popular method that people selected, not surprisingly, was to simply add me to their Technorati favorites. Of the 98 entries, 77 came from Technorati. I was hoping to get a few more backlinks through this contest, but I’m reasonably happy with the 11 posts that were written. Here are links to all eleven posts:
- Ed Lau
- Cikgu Azleen
- The Daily Kimchi
- Matt
- Contest Blogger
- The Contest Tracker
- Get Your Blog Goodies
- I Thought, Therefore I Blog
- Webtrepreneur
- Santosh P
- Roberta Ferguson (but the post has since gone missing?)
I’m surprised that only 4 of those 11 posts contained a screenshot proving that they subscribed to my full feed RSS. I figured that if they were willing to a blog post, they might as well take the extra 30 seconds to put up a screenshot and effectively double your odds.
The rest of the entries came from this month’s top commentators. It was a tight race for the number one spot with just one comment separating first and second place. Top commentator Matt got a total of FIVE entries in this contest.
Rounding out the list are Vijay, Super Affiliate Zac Johnson, Make Money With Funds, and Dy Phan of A Tentative Personal Finance Blog. Thanks for keeping the discussion going!
Well, here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for. I kept track of the contest entries using an Excel spreadsheet, devoting one line to each entry (so Matt got five lines). I then got Excel to generate a random number between 1 and 98, and the number that came up was… 5.
That’s Gregg Gordon, aka Flash604. Congratulations, Gregg. Email me with your mailing address and I’ll get this thing shipped your way.
Huge thanks to everyone who entered. I’m thinking of running another contest this month too, so keep your eyes peeled for another chance to win!
wow this shows how out of the loop I was, I didn’t even know you were having a contest!
Woohoo!
My second internet win this year.
2nd? You must be very lucky. I haven’t won anything – probably because this is the first time I enter such contest.. Anyway, congratulations..
Congrats Gregg…
Congrats on the win, Gregg and Congrats Michael for a successful contest.
Congratulations Gregg!
Well, at least I got a few backlinks out of it… đ
Congrats Gregg đ
Interesing that most people went the Technorati route…I suppose if there’s an easy option, people take that!
Thanks everyone.
Hey, Michael… I have actually changed over from Blogger to a self-hosted WordPress blog. I’m entering a new email address and the new URI into the comments field; but it’s bringing up my old blog URI as the link. I didn’t realize it, but the comments I’ve been making are pointing to my old blog even though I’ve been inputting my new info. The only common thing between my old comments and those I’ve made in the past few weeks is my name. Do I need to actually change my name in order to get my new URI to show?
You know what, I have no idea. Your new link is working fine with each individual comment, as far as I can tell, but the top commentator list is still pulling your old link. Yeah, try posting a comment with a new name (maybe your full name?) and see how that goes.
Ok, let’s try it with my full name.
Not that I have a chance of ever ranking well for my name in Google; turns out I share a name with a famous artist.
Congrats Gregg! Thanks Michael for a fun contest, i guess everyone wins in the end.
Looking forward to your next contest.
wowo. very generous of you.. congrats!
I’m not an avid poster on other blogs, but the simplicity and varied topics on this blog keep me coming back. I’m sure I will continue to be one of the top commentors for a while. Congrats on the contest success and to the winner!
Thanks for the kind comments, Zac. I appreciate it.
awesome! Congrats greg and Michael for having a successful contest
Maybe next time I’ll be lucky đ Thank you for the link love!
Congratz, Greg!
