The internet is a very fickle place. One day, you’re on top of the world and everyone loves your blog and just can’t get enough of it. The next day, all these people with short attention spans have jumped onto a new bandwagon, exclaiming that it is the greatest discovery of all time. Now, I can’t say that my blog has been particularly popular over the course of its existence (which is coming up on one year), but I’ve seen some pretty steady growth, especially since I started dedicating myself to blogging at least once a day. The growth has been even better after installing some fun plug-ins and then tossing in a few extra additions. Let’s see where I’m at in the blogosphere.
When I got accepted by ReviewMe, my Technorati ranking was 78,469. I also noticed that my Alexa was in the 500K-600K range. Both of these have improved quite a bit since then, even though it’s only been about a week. This may be a result of John Chow’s evil pinging scheme. Another side effect, unfortunately, is that it seems I’ve been banned by Technorati. When you use the Technorati search function, Beyond the Rhetoric does not show up, despite the fact that the BTR Technorati page is still there. Anyways, here are my digits as of today:
Technorati: 52,953
Alexa: 337,378.
Google Indexed Pages: 274
Google Pagerank: 4 (front page)
There’s clearly more room for improvement, but I’m very happy to see those numbers improving. The unfortunate side effect is that I’ve been banned by Technorati.
So, overall, is this good news or bad news?

Technorati seems to have gone crazy for me too. They have cut my inbound links from 128 to 16. Weird, isn’t it? They have reduced the numbers of inbound links for you too, Michael.
Technorati is crazy. imagine if you did the evil pinging scheme to the top blog in Technorati, now that would simply be plain evil. I wonder though if they would ban them.
Hmm, a question what pinging service do you use to send all those urls to technorati. i want to know if theres a free one.
The Root of All Evil got you banned! Evil always takes collateral damage!
Looks like some of us are feeling the ‘wrath’ of it now though!
Technorati has been acting weird lately. Links missing, posts not showing up, and my ranking seems to drop almost everytime I make a post. I’m not complaining about the last one 🙂
I think it’s a little harsh that even though Technorati knew what John did they’ve still gone and banned a bunch of people that just happen to be linked to him.
Collateral damage to John’s evil ways.
I guess the situation is somewhat back to normal now.
