Video: Top 10 Best SNES Games Ever

Way back near the beginning of March, ScrewAttack teased us with a list of the top 20 best games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), only to reveal a video that listed #20 through to #11. And then they left us waiting for the rest of the list. Our wait is now over, because Stuttering Craig is back with the top 10 best SNES games of all-time.

I’m actually a little disappointed with this list, not really because the top ten is so heavy on RPGs (Jon Lee was right in his prediction), but because the list was so light on fighting games. Sure, Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat made the first half of the list, but no fighting game in the top ten? What about the various incarnations of Street Fighter II?

UPDATE: For whatever reason, the video has been pulled from their site. I’ll update this post when and if they put it back up again.

UPDATE #2: And the video is back. I guess GameTrailers and ScrewAttack had a bit of a hiccup there.

If Nintendo’s Mario Was Real

real-mario.jpg

If Nintendo’s Mario was real, he’d look like one creepy pedophile! There are several reasons why someone would think that Mario sucks, but bringing the pudgy plumber into the real world would just make him even weirder than he already is. Super Mario Pedophile Wii would not be one of the best Mario games ever, that’s for sure.

Top 20 SNES Games: Part One

The Super Nintendo, known as the Super Famicom in Japan, is arguably the best video game console ever created. It may not be as powerful as today’s PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but the SNES has a huge wealth of unforgettable video games. From side-scrolling brawlers like Final Fight to incredible sports titles like NHL 97, the system really did have it all.

Stuttering Craig from ScrewAttack also recognizes the awesomeness of the Super Nintendo, opting to provide a top 20 list instead of his usual top 10. The classic console really is that great.

Did one of your favorites make his list? The video above shows entries 11 through 20, so maybe your all-time favorite is in his top ten! I’m glad to see fighting games like Killer Instinct and Street Fighter II: Turbo make the list. I do love them fighting games.

Wanna Shoot Me In The Face?

C’mon, you know you want to.

I’ve said many times before that you shouldn’t let the haters get you down, but I never thought that someone would resort to physical violence against me for my freelance writing and expert reviewing skills. All kidding aside, Betshopboy has decided to feature yours truly in a Flash-based video game. And it’s a first-person shooter… sort of.

The timing of the Halloween-themed shooting game is a little off, but it’s still loads of fun. My face pops out from a number of different graves and then you must whip out your shotgun and blow my bloody brains out. Although there are some cartoony guts flying in every which direction, this Flash game is not nearly as graphic as Halo 3. Getting shot in the virtual face might be a little less painful than getting kicked in the chest and falling down a bottomless pit.

For more snazzy games featuring a blogger you may know, go ahead and play the fame game at Betshopboy’s blog. You can even make some linkbait custom games of your own while you’re at it.

Random Musings: Burgers, Top Affiliates, and Street Fighter

There are a few things that I wanted to talk about today, but I didn’t feel like writing up individual blog posts for each of them. Instead, I’m going to offer you guys a combo pack with three very different topics. Nothing like a quick mash-up to cap off a reasonably relaxing weekend.

First up, I read in the newspaper that Wally’s Burgers is closing for good. For those of you who are not from the Vancouver area, Wally’s Burgers is was a popular burger joint for the last fifty years. It harkens back to an age with drive-ins and bright neon signs. I’ve been to Wally’s a couple of times, enjoying their Chuck Wagon and other beefy burgers, so it’s a little sad to see it go. The current owner is not renewing his lease — rent and taxes are $6,500 a month — because it’s no longer financially viable to do so. Maybe it would be a good idea to relocate dot com pho one week to Wally’s before the place shuts down at the end of this month.

You may have heard about the Next Internet Millionaire. Well, a similar concept is being conjured up for the Top Affiliate Challenge. It’s going to be an online game show with a similar format to The Apprentice, except it’s catering specifically to affiliate marketing. The 12 contestants will be broken up into three teams, each of which is headed by a top affiliate coach. I hear that Shoemoney and a certain panda killer could be involved. Maybe I should enter; the worst case scenario is an all-expense paid trip to Nebraska.

Ending on a very light note, you may have been following the Street Fighter: The Later Years saga on College Humor. While I’d normally blog about this on my fighting games blog, I thought it’d be nice to re-introduce the series to Beyond the Rhetoric readers. That’s because part 9, the final episode, has now been posted. The conclusion isn’t as epic as I would have hoped, but I still think The Later Years will be better than the upcoming Kristen Kreuk project. Anyways, here’s part 9 of Street Fighter: The Later Years. Enjoy!

Wii Would Like To Race

Mario Kart Wii looks pretty sweet, but that tiny Wii Wheel just seems… odd. The concept isn’t new, because GT Pro Series came with a steering wheel attachment too, but when you throw in some of Nintendo’s best known characters and offer them in a fantastic arcade racing experience, you know that you’ve got a winner. I loved Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart DS, so I’m pretty sure that I’m going to love Mario Kart Wii as well, especially since it’s going to be online.

Even so, I think I’m looking forward even more to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Having Sonic, Solid Snake, and Samus beating the crap out of Pikachu is somehow more satisfying than using Diddy Kong to drop a banana peel in front of Luigi.
