And here we are, at yet another What’s Up Wednesdays speedlink. It’s the monthly roundup of great blog posts from around the web. It’s also my little way of giving back to the Internet community that has provided me with so much. Let’s jump right into it.

Dale Allen Berg recounts the story of how his family was evicted from their home in Kelowna three years ago. This was just four days after leaving the hospital with twin newborns. Oh, and they also had a one-year-old in tow. And it was a 0.1% vacancy rate for rentals in the area. I’m looking forward to connecting with Dale again this weekend for our #5DadsGoWild camping trip. Even if the forecast calls for freezing temperatures.

Lori Culbert of the Vancouver Sun discusses the new high school curriculum in BC. Normally, I wouldn’t link to a mainstream newspaper in one of these roundups. But, it just so happens she interviewed Stacey Robinsmith (also one of the five dads of #5DadsGoWild) for the feature. He’s on the cutting edge of modern education in the province, after all. The new curriculum eschews formal testing for more student-driven projects. No more provincial exams?

Stacey Robinsmith summarizes some of the great food in Lillooet he enjoyed. Outside of his professional life as a teacher, Stacey is also an avid foodie. Over the summer, he traveled through the Fraser Canyon extensively. Along the way, he visited a terrific bakery, ate some fresh pork rinds with guacamole, and indulged in a grilled portobello mushroom burger. Looks delicious!

Alice Wong keeps the foodie theme going with her international adventure in Italy. They started their trip in Milan (which, funnily enough, is where our Italy trip ended). There, she also enjoyed ossobucco (stewed veal shank) and la cotoletta alla Milanese (veal cutlet). That’s just what you eat when you’re in Milan, right? The journey continued on to Venice, Bologna, Rome, Florence, Sicily and the Amalfi Coast.

Eschelle Westwood finishes off this What’s Up Wednesdays roundup with some pumpkin decorating. After all, Halloween is right around the corner. While many of us assume that a jack-o’-lantern is carved from a typical orange pumpkin, there’s so much more variety to explore. Eschelle walks us through some options she found at GardenWorks, including white, pink, and yellow pumpkins, plus a variety of gourds too!
