As a dad to a young daughter, I’ve been exposed to all sorts of things that were never a part of my own childhood. I never really participated in any tea parties, for instance, and contrary to what you may have heard otherwise, I never donned a “pretty dress” either. At least to my knowledge. But all of that is changing and my world is getting consumed by girly things, like with a bag full of Goody hair accessories.

Something that you learn (and see) very quickly from great parents is just how far they’re willing to go for their kids. These parents will step way outside of their comfort zones and participate in activities that may otherwise be embarrassing or awkward, because it makes their children happy.

When your three-year-old daughter insists that you should have matching pink and purple headbands, you do it. I mean, this can’t possibly compare to Canadian Dad Chris Read’s gymnastics routine with his daughter (he puts it all out there!), but I’m doing my best and I’m sure my time will come soon enough. Maybe I should start limbering up now.

I don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with princess culture and other “girly things” as long as little girls are afforded equal opportunity to explore other interests. Addie seems just as enthusiastic about dinosaurs and space travel as she is captivated by tea parties and infant care. And I think that’s great.

As far as this week’s vlog goes, there are tons of Trolls hair accessories from Goody available and they’re all affordable enough that it’s not the end of the world when they go missing. Because of course they’ll go missing. Now if only I can figure out how to tie a better ponytail on her. Maybe she’d be better suited for pigtails? Would any of the more fashionable parents in the audience care to lend me some pointers?
