If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, if you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you’ll know that the best way to my heart is through my stomach. I like food. I like eating out. And it doesn’t even need to be all that fancy either, like that time I loaded up on 67-cent hamburgers at McDonald’s.

I can’t be the only one who is immediately reminded of Tai Mai Shu. This Internet sensation went viral long before Star Wars Kids and Dramatic Gophers racked up millions of views on YouTube.

To be fair, my taste in haute cuisine may have refined just a touch over the years. Not quite satisfied with these el cheapo hamburgers from McDonald’s straight out of the paper bag, I decided to melt three kinds of gourmet cheese and grill up some mushrooms to slide on in there too. This is the kind of comfort food that stabs straight at the heart.

Just don’t tell my cardiologist.

Living in Vancouver, we are treated to an embarrassment of riches when it comes to all sorts of affordable food. Want some great sushi for less than ten bucks? Not a problem. Looking for an exceptional sandwich, a delicious donair, or a heaping plate of house-made pasta? We’ve got that too.
