What's Up Wednesdays: Interviews and Milestones

Kicking off this week’s speedlink, Scott Behson was recently invited to appear on MSNBC to talk about parental leave for working dads. While some progress has been made with maternity leave in the United States, paternal leave is still quite rare. And even where it is offered, it’s grossly insufficient. Can you believe that 29% of men have no access to leave of any kind for the birth of a child?

Continuing with the topic of fatherhood, we have a couple of dads chatting it up in Calgary. Mike Granek conducts a number of interviews on Top Daddies and one of his most recent videos was with blogger and radio personality Buzz Bishop. The former Vancouverite speaks about the culture of the Calgary Stampede, as well as the changing stereotypes in regards to a dad’s role in the family. As I’ve stated before, attitudes are shifting and the modern dad is far more involved in parenting than ever before.

To be seen as equal in the eyes of the law feels like it would be a rather humble request. As Joseph Planta discusses in his interview with Don Chapman, things aren’t always quite so easy. Chapman authored a book called The Lost Canadians wherein he explores the “struggle for citizenship rights, equality and identity” among people who were born in Canada but somehow lost their citizenship. There are more than a million of these individuals!

While I have not been married for 15 years, I have been with Susanne for that long. Clayton Imoo reflects back on his relationship with his lovely wife Gail after being married for 15 years. Over that time, Clay has learned a lot about what it takes to have a successful marriage, like the power of both complimenting and complementing one another. And let’s not downplay the value of trust, humility and forgiveness either.

Last but not least, we have Tyler Cruz reaching a rather important milestone in his life. Many of us may know him best as an “Internet entrepreneur,” but after a year of research and effort, he has officially purchased his first income property. He opened up a new holding company specifically for this purpose and the goal is to unlock a lifetime of “passive” income that is more stable than the turbulent waters of affiliate marketing.
