What's Up Wednesdays: The Next Step

This week’s speedlink session has to do with moving forward and taking the next step. Starting things off, Ray Ebersole has made a decision about his approach to blogging moving forward. The education and technology blog is going to be focused more on — you guessed it — education and technology, as well as coding, PowerShell and new technology reviews. To accommodate his more personal posts, Ray has started a separate blog called It Affects Me which oddly has “iteffectsme” in the URL as he couldn’t secure the “itaffectsme” subdomain.

The English language is a living entity that continues to breathe and evolve over time. Some words fall out of favor and new words are created all the time. Steffani Cameron knows this as well as everyone and she’s calling for the “bloody death” of “words that make me vomit in my mouth.” More specifically, while she loves words that provide greater specificity, she’s clearly not a fan of buzzwords. Don’t call yourself a “yuccie” (young urban creative) in front of her.

The Internet knows Tyler Cruz more as an affiliate marketer and online entrepreneur, but he’s slowly trying to expand his world into real estate too. He’s been looking to invest in his first income property and now he’s facing some setbacks. The amortization period has been reduced, directly impacting his cash flow and return on investment, and he has learned that he cannot bundle repairs into the mortgage, among other issues.

Some people look toward the next step in their lives when they make new year’s resolutions. Damien Riley is taking a slightly different approach insofar as he has outlined what he hopes to accomplish this summer. From going out with the wife once a week to taking the time to rest and rebuild, he has quite the list. He also aims to blog as least once a day, which could be the exact opposite of what I might do moving forward.

While I hardly claim to be an adventurous globetrotter, I do enjoy traveling and seeing the world. Seth wants to provide his daughter with the same kind of worldly experience. He wants her to “experience the stamina required to endure an international flight” and to “walk the streets of a city older than she can fathom.” For me, a big part of travel is indulging in the local cuisine and I fully intend on taking the same approach with my little one when she gets old enough to remember these trips.
