Looking Ahead to Summer 2015 Blockbusters - Avengers: Age of Ultron

As I said on Friday, we haven’t been going out as much and that would explain the lack of movie reviews on Beyond the Rhetoric lately. As Adalynn gets a little older and it becomes easier for us to head out for a few hours without her, though, that’ll change. And luckily enough for us, that time should coincide with the release of several Hollywood blockbusters this summer.

Unsurprisingly, three of the most highly anticipated movies have a sci-fi or geeky comic book kind of slant to them. It’s important to note that this post is focusing on the blockbusters, so I won’t be discussing some other movies I want to watch, like Ted 2, Minions and Straight Outta Compton. Instead, we’re looking mostly at robots and dinosaurs.

Terminator: Genisys

Easily one of my favorite all-time movies has to be Terminator 2. It had time travel, crazy special effects, and no shortage of epic one liners. The franchise never did get back to that same level since, but we’re hoping a slight reboot in the form of Genisys will do that. Seeing “Khaleesi” Emilia Clarke in the role of Sarah Connor is strange, but I am cautiously optimistic. The new T-1000 looks sweet.

Jurassic World

Perhaps it is because movies like T2 and Jurassic Park were released during my most formative years that I am the most emotionally attached to them. Indeed, the Jurassic Park novel by Michael Crichton was literally the book that changed my life. And just like the Terminator series, the hope is that Jurassic World will lead this franchise back to glory too. That said, seeing Starlord from Guardians of the Galaxy as the Raptor Whisperer is bewildering.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Whereas the above two films pull heavily on my nostalgic heartstrings, I was far more interested in the X-Men than the Avengers as a kid. I still am, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has done such a fantastic job of tying together so many storylines, culminating in 2012’s The Avengers and continuing through with Winter Soldier, Ant-Man and Age of Ultron. If practically any other movies in this MCU set are any indication, this latest entry should be mightily heroic.

What movies are you looking forward to seeing this year? Jupiter Ascending? James Bond in Spectre? The rebooted Fantastic Four? Star Wars with its epic lightsabers?
