Every Wednesday, I gather up and share five interesting blog posts from around the Internet. This week’s selection features an anniversary, some happy couples, a complicated question, a creative game and a local media bloke.

We start our tour with Stacey Robinsmith. He’s the resident New Westminster expert and he recently paid a visit to one of the cooler spots in New West. The Spud Shack Fry Co celebrated its one-year anniversary last month, giving out 600 pounds of poutine to some very happy customers. You might remember when we went to Spud Shack for an episode of Dot Com Pho back in March.

It has also been a very exciting and productive time for one Tomasz Wagner, who recaps his year of wedding photography. In that blog post, he highlights some of the best shots he took in 2013 for some very happy couples. We hired Tomasz as the photographer for our wedding and we couldn’t have been more pleased with what he was able to capture.

Next up, we have Laura Spencer answering the question of whether freelancing is easy. Many people have the image of working in their pajamas, but freelancing comes with more than its fair share of challenges. Can you handle having multiple bosses? Are you ready to give up your paid days off? I address some of these kinds of concerns in my book, Beyond the Margins, which should give you a good sense of what to expect should you choose to start freelancing.

One of my favorite games on the Nintendo DS is Scribblenauts. The game has now taken the leap over to iOS and Byron Bacher offers up his review of Scribblenauts Remix for the iPhone and iPad. The fundamental gameplay remains much the same: you write out whatever objects you’d like to use, they enter the virtual world, and you manipulate them to solve your puzzle. It’s a wonderfully creative challenge that’s well worth the one-dollar purchase price.

Last but not least, Joseph Planta had the opportunity to chat with Charlie Smith of The Georgia Straight as part of his “On The Line” series on The Commentary. They talk about the changing landscape of media in British Columbia, as well as discuss all sorts of current affairs (particularly in politics). This is Smith’s fourth appearance on the program.
