Going to Taiwan for Computex Taipei 2010

If you’ve been following me on Twitter, then you may have noticed me mentioning that I have a few very busy weeks ahead of me. Right after I finish with my speaking engagement at Freelance Camp, I’ll be hopping on a plane to Taiwan to attend Computex Taipei 2010. Shortly after that, I’m going to E3 Expo in Los Angeles.

Enter Geek Heaven?

As you may or may not already know, Computex is one of the biggest computer trade shows in the world and that only makes sense: Taiwan is home to many of the major electronic component manufacturers! I went in 2008, but missed Computex 2009 due to a lack of budget. Thankfully, that turned around for 2010.

I’m expecting that many of my initial observations of Taipei will still ring true, but now I’m braced for the army of scooters and the lack of English-speaking people. It helps that we’ll be meeting up with Twitter buddies @joshuadenney and @rosehwang there, especially since the latter can speak the local language.

Drink from a Urinal?

It’s still undecided whether we will be revisiting Modern Toilet for a meal, but I do intend in getting in a little more of the tourist fare this time around. Again, having Rose at our disposal is an absolute godsend. We do plan on visiting the Shilin Night Market, since it should be better than the Richmond Night Market we have in the Vancouver area.

Oh, and I guess I’ll be getting some work done at Computex too. I’ll be visiting with some different companies, wandering around to the different product booths, and even going on a couple of factory tours to see how my beloved gadgets are created.

See You There!

If you happen to be out Taipei way in the next week or two and want to meet up, let either me or Stephen know! It’s always fun to meet with our international fans… so to speak. Also, if you know of any good tourist traps tourist attractions we should visit, let us know too.
