As for Night at the Museum I plan on going to see it also, but just for the veg time and the laughs. Not all films have to live up to the first in the series. If they are a diversion and entertaining I could care less if they have a plot or make sense.

There are films that need to have a plot, and at the same time live up to previous films. A good example is Star Trek, which I reviewed here on BTR. It had a history to live up to and it did. If they had not had a plot or a reason for the way the plot played out it would not have been worth the watch.
