Nick: A lot of anime/manga in Japan is definitely geared toward an older audience. Four-year-olds couldn’t possibly understand the complexities of something like Akira or Ghost in the Shell.

I remember being marketed to as a kid Saturday morning while watching cartoon. Back then it was lego and the nurf guns. I think I have those guns around here somewhere still.

It’s not just kids, while I’ve never been into it I know several “adults” who are waaay into anime…I’m not just talking about animated TV shows though, but the Japanese anime that is actually geared towards adults and you probably wouldn’t want your 4 year-old watching.

The kids love Anime and that’s who they market to. As a father of a 4 year old I know what marketing can do to a child, and my wallet.

That was all I had to play with when I was a kid. No video games, just a toy figure that we threw out of the tree with a napkin for a parachute.

I’ve never been a fan of Anime, but apparently it’s absolutely huge from a marketer’s stand point. I was told a few years ago to market Anime items on eBay from wholesale, but the competition was out of control.

I’ve never really been into the whole Transformers saga, but that GI Joe trailer peaked my interest. I just can’t picture Dennis Quaid in a serious role anymore after the fluff he’s starred in lately.
