I think office equipments are very needed in running a freelance business. It saves time and money compared to renting.

If the fax machine is seldom used, why not go for the public fax right across the street? I have until now had to use even that just once.

While I don’t do a ton of business from home, I do have a fax machine (well, it’s an all-in-one machine) and I do use it on an occasional basis. I only plug it in to the phone line (my regular line) when I am going to use it. I use it about a handful of times per year, but even though I don’t use it very often I am glad I have it.

I think the most benefit from one of the online places and paying their fees would only be if you actually had enough fax volume to justify the monthly charge. Otherwise, getting an all-in-one machine to use as a copier/fax for a home office seems to be the best option financially.

I used a virtual fax machine at my job a few years ago. I thought it worked pretty well… well, better than a normal fax machine actually.

I have a fax line. I used it…hmm… I can’t remember when the last time I used it was…

At least it was only a cheap VONAGE $9 buck a month line.
