I get it too. I also agree that it would have to be the dumbest form of spam I have seen. I can't imagine anyone who would have a contact form would click any link in it. This is easy enough to do and they can probably adjust on the fly for the various spam filter fields. It doesn't seem like a prudent use of time to me but as you said, there must be enough people clicking on this garbage to make it worth their time.
