The Writers Guild of America is still on strike, so that means that we are not enjoying new episodes of many of our favorite TV shows. Flipping through late night television, I’m forced to suffer through reruns of Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno, and Stephen Colbert. It sucks, because these shows are supposed to be topical and timely. It’s not amusing when they make fun of year-old news.

If you’ve been itching to scratch your need for topical news parody, you’re in luck. Sure, the production isn’t nearly as high quality as a real airing of The Daily Show, but the mock video below is just as funny. If I’m not mistaken, we still get treated to appearances by Stephen Colbert (is it him holding the sign?) and John Oliver too. The writers for The Daily Show have put together this mock segment for the show, filmed right at the front lines of the writer’s strike. The topic is very timely as well, because they’re talking about — you guessed it — the writer’s strike.

As you know, the key point of contention is revenue from “new media” like content that is hosted and viewed on the Internet. The writers call out the big corporations (Viacom, in this case) on their utter hypocrisy. On the one hand, Viacom is saying that they don’t make any money from the content they serve up on the web and thus writers cannot get a cut of that revenue pie. On the other hand, Viacom sued Google over the illegal hosting of Viacom property (Daily Show clips, Colbert Report segments, etc.) on YouTube. They sued for $1 billion. So, which is it? Is the content worth a billion or is it worth nothing?

The great video below will temporarily satiate your insatiable appetite for The Daily Show. No Jon Stewart, but it’s good enough for now.
