With so many things on my plate, I totally forgot that today is Blog Action Day until I saw the post on Darren Barefoot‘s blog where he talked about his big eco-sin of flying all around the world, polluting all along the way.

In case you didn’t hear, Blog Action Day (today) is supposed to be the day where the bloggers of the world unite to all talk about the same topic on the same day and today’s topic is the environment. The idea is that it will bring environmental issues to the forefront and raise awareness, much like the 24-hour concert organized by Al Gore. You might remember it: Live Earth. During those 24 hours, people were encourage to make environmental pledges to help cut down on emissions, lower waste, and otherwise do things to help Mother Earth stay healthy.

Speaking for myself, I do a small thing every day to help save the environment. Or rather, I don’t do a certain thing: commute. Whereas most people with normal jobs have to either hop on the bus or jump in the car to get to their respective jobs, all I have to do is walk down the stairs to my home office in order to begin another day of freelance writing. It might make finding a healthy life-work balance a little more challenging, but it’s worth it (and it reduces my ecological footprint). I try to help out where I can in other areas too, of course, like avoiding disposable water bottles, walking to the store rather than driving, and recycling where I can.

Have you gone green? What do you do as “your part”?
