Late last month, I implemented a feature on Beyond the Rhetoric that provides free backlinks to people who send trackbacks my way. The idea is that I’d be giving a little exposure back to the people who were kind enough to send some traffic my way. Well, I’d like to thank everyone who has ever linked to Beyond the Rhetoric and I hope that you continue to do so.

In an effort to encourage more pingbacks, I have decided to dedicate this edition of What’s Up Wednesdays to five random people who have linked to me in the last 30 days or so. In the past, I’ve dedicated speedlink posts to top commentators, so it’s only fair that I send a little link love back to people who were nice enough to show me some link love too.

(The Blog Formerly Known As) Taosbound seems to post all sorts of random things for our enjoyment. The blogger got into an IM conversation with a friend concerning the relationship between blogs and ads. The friend says that blogs are “all ads” and, what’s more, she is “annoyed because the blogs that turn up in search results make it more difficult for her to find what she considers authoritive information.” I think that’s phoo-ey.

Bob Buskirk is a dot com mogul based out of Pittsburgh, home to the mighty Sidney Crosby. His blog recently got its first direct sponsor and it’s none other than the evil panda killer himself. The image ad is probably one of the best I’ve seen in quite some time. It doesn’t even look like an ad.

one gigabyte - ibm 20 years ago vs today

Reality Wired is a blog that focuses on gadgets, gaming, and more. In one of their most recent posts, they compare what the storage of one gigabyte looked like twenty years ago and what it looks like today. Technology has evolved in leaps and bounds. Remember when they said that no one would ever need this much storage? There are plenty of single files out there that are more than a gig now.

dcr Blogs can be thought of as a meta-blog in many ways, because “blogging” is by far its biggest and most popular post category. An interesting question was proposed there, asking if you could live anywhere, where would it be? Having lived in Vancouver my entire life, I have a hard time imagining my life anywhere else. Maybe I’ll just move to a fancier neighbourhood or something.

Ms. Danielle‘s blog is supposed to be “just another ego blog site”, but Danielle offers some great internet marketing advice and PPC tips, along with the occasional pictures of her bunny Binky. Danielle recently took a good long look at Yahoo! and its changes in search and PPC. Sure, Google owns the lion’s share of the search engine market, but that doesn’t mean that you should forget about Yahoo!, MSN, and other sites. Contrary to popular belief, Adsense isn’t the be-all and end-all of PPC advertising either.

So now you know what’s up on Wednesday. And knowing is half the battle…
