I also started reading this book as well. I'm really liking it so far!

I haven't been online much for the past two weeks, but pretty much everything has been running the same. Email and IM sure do take up a decent amount of time... but so does wasting time watching TV :(

I check my email nearly every 4 days because I give it low priority. I like to Instant Message people instead! Thanks for writing

I think he means that he doesn't have to keep going to his inbox to check to see if there's any email, not that he's not dependant on email...

I do check my work email as soon as I hear the signaling tone for a new email, but that is just to check the title as I am responsible for the vital tools used to by a large number of people to do their jobs. If it isn't an immediate priority, the email likely will not get opened for hours due to the volume I receive and the other priorities I have. That said, if you stop me in the hall or instant message me about an issue, I will tell you to put it in an email so that it does get it's place in line.

As for home email, I had a hard drive crash several months ago, and I have yet to get around to setting up all my emails in Outlook. For personal items, instant messenger is often more appropriate.

Maybe I'm missing something, but installing a toolbar so you don't have to check email, I don't thing that indicates that you are any less dependent on your email, rather it would seem to mean that you confirmed to yourself that you must know immediately when you get a new piece of mail rather than being able to wait?

I'm almost always logged into Gmail, and I use gTalk for Windows to get alerts when a new email comes in. I usually end up reply right away to anything I get though... :P

"I’ve found that some of the people I normally email are totally startled when I call."

You mean like me?
