In case your readers would like to read the article, its entitled "Tips to Jump-Start Your Writing Portfolio," and can be read at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/368068/tips_to_jumpstart_your_writing_portfolio.html

Thanks again for the inspiration and the idea. ;)

Hi Michael

Thanks for a great article. I am right at the stage where like you said - everyone wants to see a portfolio and no one seem to want to listen. It's like back in the days when you just finish school and trying to find a job, and you get knocked back with "sorry you don't have any experience"

Working towards to get that 'break' into the market soon :)

I thought I would let you know that while reading this post you helped spark an article idea. Not only did you help me get an article idea, but you inspired me to get my butt in gear to write it. You can read all about the idea you helped me with in my blog. In fact, I linked back to this post in my blog entry. :)

I would also like to thank you for the information you shared. Not only can I relate to you, but I can remember those days clearly. ;)

Accept projects that interest you (and pay well), while respectfully declining topics that you either don’t want to write about.

I think you missed an "or" in there. ;-)

Don't you just hate editors? LOL!

Great article. I also discovered it through ChrisBlogging.com too. I have your blog bookmarked, but didn't check it until after seeing Chris' link.

It is applicable to bloggers too, as you mentioned. I haven't really done any freelance work in years, but this was still a useful read for my efforts in the blogosphere.

Hey, I've been subscribed to your feed for about a week now - but somehow missed getting around to this one yesterday, found it on Chrisblogging.com. Anyways, great article. I'm just starting out in my freelance career and find myself taking anything I can get. I'd love to do full-time sports writing, but not be limited by it either. It's always good to have a well-ranged portfolio.
