Ducks Win Stanley Cup, Scott Neidermayer MVP

June 6th, 2007 by Michael Kwan

Just a quick note to anyone who missed the game earlier tonight: they have crowned the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions… and they’ve got beaks and webbed feet.

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Ottawa Senators in Game Five of the 2007 NHL Playoffs Stanley Cup Final by a score of 6 to 2. Although the Sens managed to stomp all over the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New Jersey Devils, and even the President’s Trophy winning Buffalo Sabres, the complete package presented by the Anaheim Ducks was just too much. Ottawa dispatched those three Eastern Conference teams in just five games, so it’s almost poetic justice that they get knocked out in the same fashion. The award for playoff MVP was given to Ducks captain Scott Niedermayer.

It should also be noted that this is the first Stanley Cup championship for the Ducks organization (as well as a first for ANY California-based club).

I don’t think the city of Anaheim deserves the Cup at all but the Ducks as a team certainly did. They outplayed the Senators so badly in the series…which goes to show up much more dominant the West is in the NHL.

Now if only a the winning city actually gave a damn about hockey. It makes me sick everytime a city with empty seats in the arena during a f’n playoff game wins the Cup. Carolina? Tampa Bay? Now Anaheim…

Wouldn’t been nice to see a Canadian team win (since we invented Hockey), but oh well.
