Beyond the Rhetoric

No Seats, No Problem

May 21st, 2007 by Michael Kwan

Remember how I told you that I went networking with a bunch of computer geeks at the AMD Microsoft Tech Tour 2007? Well, in addition to all the free swag that I got for enduring their propaganda, they also fed me via a buffet-style dinner.

The organization of this meal wasn’t the best, because following one of the painfully boring PowerPoint presentations, they just told us to file out into the hallway and storm one of the conference rooms. The lineup was horrendous. Given that they only gave us about 40-45 minutes for dinner and it took me about 25 minutes to actually get to the food, that only left me with 15-20 minutes to eat. And even then, they didn’t exactly provide us with enough places to sit. And even the places that had seats, well, there as a severe lack of tables. So, what is one to do?

The Asian squat, of course! Demonstrated here by retired dot com guru Stephen Fung, the Asian squat gives you a firm foundation and both hands free, but you might look like a bit of a goof in the middle of a tech event like this tour. The price you pay for free swag, I guess.

Anyways, here’s a closer look at the food, in case you’re interested. As you can see, it’s far from fine dining.
