I love living in Vancouver, not because its reasonably clean air or its ability to attract dot com moguls, but largely because we have so much to eat. In the Greater Vancouver area, there are ethnic restaurants up the wazoo. There are Korean supermarkets, Indian restaurants, and even fine dining establishments that serve Swiss cuisine.

I know, pizza isn’t exactly considered ethnic cuisine anymore, but most places that serve pizza around these parts do it the American way. You get a whole lot of cheese — including the stuffed crust, of course — and a whole lot of grease. Lombardo’s Ristorante and Pizzeria on Commercial Drive isn’t exactly traditional, but it’s one of the few places left that is reasonably authentic. And it’s got great (brick oven) pizza.

Located in a tiny shopping mall on Commercial and First Avenue, this small ristorante gives you an “eating outside” experience without braving the neverending rain that we withstand in Vancouver. This is because the shopping mall has (mostly) glass ceilings, giving you plenty of natural light.

On the downside, the prices aren’t all that cheap, especially considering that Lombardo’s is on Commercial Drive. The pizza is available in medium and large, the latter of which is about $24 regardless of which topping combination you select. This is not inexpensive, and I probably wouldn’t have gone if it were for the 50% off Entertainment coupon.

The next pizza joint I intend on trying is Uncle Faith’s on Commercial and Broadway. Their pizza is supposed to be good (and cheap). ‘Cause I’m always on the lookout for the best turtle food.
